About Rincon de Guayabitos
Oct 17th, 2008 | By Agent | Category: Retire in Mexico, Rincon de GuayabitosRincon de Guayabitos was earlier known as “Little Guavas” before being renamed by the government. Mexicans celebrate their summer, Christmas and Easter in this small resort, and the Americans retreat here commonly in the winter.
The main road of Rincon de Guayabitos is known as Avenida del Sol Nuevo. Some of the most delicious meals are served in restaurants located on streets that run out of this main road. These streets also host beautiful bungalows and trailer parks used by tourists.
To the immediate north of Guayabitos is La Penita, a nice sized little town that has open air markets and most amenities, like pharmacies and super markets. To the nearby south lays Sayulita, another popular destination, well-known for it’s surfing.
Quintessential destinations, for locals and tourists alike, in Rincon de Guayabitos include:
Isla Islote- This is an offshore protrusion, dotted with rocks all over, noticeable all along the bay. Launches made of wood, with glass-bottoms take the tourists to the island for $20 per hour. A maximum of eight people can ride on these launches, and observe the marine life through the glass bottoms.
Cerro de la Santa Cruz- it literally means Hill of the Holy Top. It can be reached by climbing the 225-step pilgrimage path. One can enjoy the view of the ocean, beach and foggy mountaintops.
Playa Guayabitos-La Penita- It is the main beach of this island. The southern cove of Guayabitos is full of palapa restaurants, a hot favorite among Mexicans. As one proceeds towards La Penita, the beach becomes more suitable for surfing and swimming.
Playa los Muertos- The literal translation stands “Beach of the Dead” since the graves continue right into the beaches.
Playa los Alaya- This is a yellow stretch of one mile. If one walks along the tropical forest belt, it leads to the romantic sand crescent of Playa des Beso, which means “Beach of the Kiss”.
Cuisine:
Abel’s Restaurant is the perfect spot for the perfect breakfast. For delicious meals one can try the family-owned Taqueria Anahi. However, if one is looking for the perfect coffee, then George and Gary’s Coffee House is the place to be.
Accomodation:
If you’re coming to visit Guayabitos to see if it’s the right home for you, there are many hotels available, most of which are known as bungalows. Bungalows imply self-service over room service, with kitchens and room for more people than regular hotels. Hotel Posada del Sol ($50 per night) is located on the north of Andando Huanacaxtle. Motel Russell has a vintage tropical setting, and remains open for guests at all times of the year. Hotel Costa Alegre, Hotel Decameron de las Palmas and Hotel Decameron Los Cocos are all under $100 for a night. Luxury lodgings like Villas Buena Vida charge over $100 for a night. This one comes with 40 palm-shaded pools, patios and ocean side view suites. Wall-to-wall RV’s (trailer parks) also come within this cost category.
