San Miguel de Allende Real Estate

Oct 30th, 2008 | By Agent | Category: Latest Articles, Mexico Real Estate Tips, Where to Buy Mexico Real Estate

The hot spot to retire used to be Florida, but more and more people are retiring to Mexico today than ever before. There are several reasons for this. The cost of living is going up so much in the U.S. that people are afraid their retirement is not going to be enough to take care of them.
The cost of living in San Miguel is so much lower than it is in the U.S. that many people are selling the homes they bought when they were first starting a family. Not to mention they are only spending about a fifth of that amount to purchase a home in Mexico. If their home is paid for this gives them a tidy profit to put in the bank and help supplement their retirement pay.

Many times, people tire of the winter chores of shoveling snow and the dangers of falling, as they get older, so they are ready for a home where the weather is nicer. The weather in San Miguel as in most of Mexico is nice almost year round. There is no snow to put up with and the heating bills are not outrageous.

Another strong reason for this area being such a popular place to live is the availability of domestic help. The maids, cooks, gardeners, and other domestic help are very cheap and you can still live cheaper here even with these expenses than you can live elsewhere without them.

San Miguel is a friendly and safe place to live. The crime rate is practically non-existent here. In addition, when it comes to the most beautiful scenery you cannot imagine what a quaint picture the backdrop of the mountains paints against the vintage villas and until you have seen them for yourself.

The location is another reason that many people prefer this area when deciding where they want to spend their retirement years. The proximity to other areas such as the U.S. and other cities makes it close enough to travel elsewhere if you want. The up to date amenities such as internet, telephone, and basic utilities are one plus when it comes to choosing a place to live.

There are plenty of activities if you are the adventuresome type and want to get out and explore nature or go horseback riding. If you buy the right place, you can even have your own horse. This area is rich in history so there are many places to visit and find a little knowledge of the area in which you now live.

For instance, did you know that San Miguel was declared a historical landmark in 1930? Since that time, they have protected their history by not allowing new construction and focusing on the upkeep of the colonial building as they were originally. The preservation of their natural history and the forbidding of neon signs and all the trappings that modern cities have is one way they keep their city true to its roots.

For the retiring couple or single, this is the ultimate place to live that has practically anything you could desire as well as being one of the few places that is not succumbing to the cost of living increases every week. This is a beautiful scenic area in which to retire and live life to its fullest.

  1. You’re so right that it can be difficult to describe exactly what makes Mexico so special to so many of us. As a true from-the-heart, love-at-first-sight adorer of San Miguel de Allende, I often struggle with my attempts to portray the true magic of living here.

Which is one reason I started a website about San Miguel. It’s my attempt to explain the magic and mystery, give folks some solid tips and insider information to make a visit even more enchanting and just generally spread the word.

If your visitors would like to read my take on San Miguel de Allende, and see lots of photos of this most photogenic place, they can visit http://www.experience-san-miguel-de-allende.com

And get ready to be enchanted!
